At least 20 major typhoons affect the Philippines every year. Disaster management has been a key program of ADRA Philippines, aiming to provide immediate help and recovery assistance to thousands of calamity-affected Filipinos.
In 2015, ADRA responded to several disasters, delivering relief services to at least 50,000 beneficiaries across 7 provinces. ADRA PH takes a comprehensive approach to emergency management: first, by working with communities to prepare for and mitigate the impact of disasters through a Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) program as part of its ongoing development initiatives, then, by partnering with local groups to provide immediate assistance when an emergency hits; and finally, by working with the affected people to help them recover after the crisis has passed through early recovery interventions. We place great importance on building local capacity and long-term resilience to external shocks. We are committed to meeting international standards of quality, accountability and community participation.
